A notary public is a person commissioned and appointed by the Secretary of State to serve the public as an impartial and unbiased witness by identifying persons who come before the notary.  Among their  various roles, the most common function of the notary is to prevent fraud by attesting that a person willing signed a document.

WHAT TO BRING TO NOTARY APPOINTMENT:

*All complete, unsigned documents that need to be notaried (and all pages of each.) Bring unsigned documents since some notarized signatures require a verbal oath and a notary to witness signature(s) from (signer(s.)

*Current government issued Identification card (ID) that has been issued within the past five (5) years [per Civil Code Section 118(C)(3)&(4).]

Appropriate ID's for all signers: 

Other acceptable forms of ID's but needs: photograph of individual, physical description, signature, and serial (identifying) number.  If the ID doesn't contain all of these then the ID will not be accepted.

2 Credible Witnesses accepted as form of ID:

If you do not have proper Identification from above list then you will need 2 credible witnesses that personally know you (with valid ID's for each credible witness.)   The 2 credible witnesses must personally know the signer, cannot be named in the document(s), and cannot have financial or beneficial interest in the document(s.)


*All signers of sound mind; fully understand the document and why they are signing.


*All signers willing to sign the document on own accord.
